Fishing For Nostalgia; Over 72.5 Wins: 3 Reasons To Like 2023 Marlins To Go Over Their Projected Win Total

The last two seasons have been lonely fishing trips for the Miami Marlins, who have stayed under-70 wins, including in 2022 when the 'Fish reeled in just 68 wins despite the services of National League Cy Young Award winner, Sandy Alcántara.

But with Alcántara leading a solid pitching rotation, a new manager (Skip Schumaker) in place and a few key off-season tweaks to the their lineup, including moving Jazz Chisholm Jr. to center field, getting over 72.5 wins feels like a smart bet on the 2023 Miami Marlins.

After you call your best friend in Las Vegas, Nevada, because sports betting is still off limits in Florida and I only promote winning propositions around here.

(Note: Take a look around this blog.)

Here are 3 reasons why the 2023 Miami Marlins to go over their projected win total of 72.5 could be a big splash, if not a winning bet for all MLB bettors in 2023!

(Hint: I'm big into betting intuition and acumen. I'm also a sucker for nostalgia.)

1.) Nostalgia: Nobody knows, not you, me or your favorite parking attendant at loanDepot Park, if Jazz Chisholm Jr., an infielder by trade, is going to handle center field on a regular basis this season. He might be good enough to play 2023 MLB The Show in-between pitches or so bad ..  Junior Felix will be out there by mid-April.

I'm also not sure if the Marlins are a good bet to score 5 runs in a single game - against your son's tee-ball team right now.

But I am a big believer in timing and circumstance when it comes to sports.

And the Marlins, celebrating a 30th year anniversary this season and desperate to keep a starved fan base hooked for the entire 2023 season, would love to be called upon to start building a National League MVP campaign in about five months, all around Chisholm Jr., a good player, not a spectacular one.

I also dig the pinstripe teal uniforms the Marlins will be dusting off this season.

So, that's good enough reasons for me.

2.) Timing: Despite at times looking like they rather all be fishing with Derek Jeter in Islamorada or eating free food inside 'Sandy's Beach', the Marlins managed to win 68 games (68!) last season, and that was all before Alcántara bagged the 2022 National League Cy Young Award.

The Marlins, for those just checking in after watching Rihanna smell the sweat off her crotch like eight times, do must of their fishing in the NL East, which is a bit of bad news. However, the good news is that the Marlins, thanks to the revamped MLB schedule, will not have to play their divisional opponents 19 times apiece this season.

The Marlins, if you haven't noticed, also fare well against the Mets and Phillies. So, just add those six combined wins against the Pirates and A's ... and cash our Marlins over 72.5 win total bet already!

3.) Talent: Hopefully, Pablo López, who is about to go from a top-tier National League pitcher to a back-of-the-rotation pitcher in the American League, is betting on his beard to keep him real warm in Minnesota.

The Marlins, meanwhile, will plug Luis Arraez, who they received from the Twins in a trade for Lopez, to the top of their lineup, and watch the 2022 AL batting champ actually make things happen; like hit singles, score runs and stuff.

Jean Segura, a free agent pick up, is also a solid bet to put his bat on the baseball, score some runs, make plenty of routine plays on defense and teach you how to dance merengue.

After, he helps an improved Marlins offense score plenty of more runs and watch his teammates run like crazy around the bases this season.

Not enough to convince you the 2023 Miami Marlins are going to win 73 games (at least)  this season?

With a rotation potentially featuring Alcántara, Johnny Cueto, Jesús Luzardo, Edward Cabrera, Trevor Rogers and Sixto Sanchez, the Marlins could also easily make a case they have the best starting pitching in the entire NL East. In fact: Buck Showalter might be crying somewhere in Port St. Lucie, right this very second.

Bet on this: RHP Sandy Alcántara, the 2022 National League Cy Young Award winner, makes the Miami Marlins a good bet to go over 72.5 total wins for the 2023 MLB season.

Props to Chiefs vs. Eagles: Super Bowl LVII Betting Preview Part 2

Don't have a betting opinion on who is going to win Super Bowl LVII: Chiefs or Eagles? No worries, my betting friends!

With the biggest sports betting event of the year almost here, it's the perfect time to make a case for a few of the many betting props set for Super Bowl LVII.

My Prediction: Gardner Minshew will play in Super Bowl LVII. (I'm no expert on how to grow a mustache, but I promise you Super Bowl LVII will get a little hairy before the sound of the final whistle. 🏦

Here comes .. the Gatorade

Imagine, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid tripping all over himself in search of his eyeglasses as Patrick Mahomes tries to douse him with another bucket of brown Gatorade? 😁 Fat chance? Think again, my betting friends! Yes. You can bet on what color of Gatorade will be poured over the winning head coach's head at the end of Super Bowl LVII.

You can also bet it right now if you want.

Note: I drink Gatorade.

Pour it on me: Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gets a Gatorade shower. The Gatorade prop bet, one of the most out-of-box bets available to bettors to make for Super Bowl LVII, is (+175) on the yellow/green. Photo Courtesy: The Kansas City Star

Largest lead Under 14.5 points (at any point during Super Bowl LVII)

The reality is Chiefs vs. Eagles in Super Bowl LVII has generated less juice in two weeks than one of Tom Brady's walks on the beach did in dos minutos.

So, what better way to get all the TV gasbags on your favorite sports network screaming at once on Monday morning, than with a back-and-forth game that comes down to the final seconds?

Even Stephen A. Smith would forget that Valentine's Day is on Tuesday, if Gardner Minshew leads the Eagles on a 76-yard game-winning drive and rally Philly from a 14-point deficit in Super Bowl LVII.

All you have to do (right now) is bet $140/$135 to win $100. You can also bet more or less money, but make sure you always, always bet very responsibly.

Patrick Mahomes Over 16.5 rushing yards

Either, Patrick Mahomes is trolling the entire NFL community or his medicine cabinet is fatter than yours or mine. 💊 💉

Sorry, but I've been around too long to believe Mahomes, now on almost two weeks of recovery time after suffering a high right ankle sprain, isn't speed walking to his favorite steakhouse in Glendale, Arizona right about now. 🍖 👟

And I wouldn't be able to stop laughing if Mahomes, who rushed for over 20 yards in 10 games this season, scores on a 25-yard touchdown run against an Eagles defense  that while very good at times leaves the middle of the field wide-open.

Start running to the cash window now!!

Wing It Or Ball Out In The 305 For The Big Game: 3 Sports Bars In Miami To Watch Super Bowl LVII

Miami is always in the mood for a big party and Super Bowl LVII is definitely reason for those living the 305-life to go deep around the bar as Patrick Mahomes runs for the end zone on Sunday night.

But whether you'll be looking to ball out with cocktails by Biscayne Bay before kick off or ready to team up with some of your rowdiest football friends, Miami is hot for sports bars where you can strip wings to the bone and watch the game.

(Check out these 3 sports bars in Miami.)

Old Tom's Sports Bar: (5001 NW 36th St., 33166) There's only one question you will be asking while singing karaoke, yelling out answers to vintage sports trivia and watching the chicken wings disappear from your plate at this iconic watering hole: Who cares who wins the game ?

Old Tom's Sports Bar, a bit dark, but always cozy and never about throwing shade, no matter what team you're rooting for, unless you still brag about Joe Namath 😉, spills past halftime with a phat menu, which also includes a juicy and meaty selection of burgers - all tasty and perfect to wash up with a cold beer.

Just kicking it: Old Tom's Sports Bar (5001 NW 36th St., Miami, FL, 33166) is the perfect sports bar for casual fans to watch the game.

Always well-run kept by a friendly, yet on the run staff ready to tackle your next order, this no-frills sports bar is close enough to Miami International Airport, you might wish Super Bowl LVII never ends. After canceling your Valentine's Day dinner date in Alberta, Canada. 😂

Black Market Miami: (401 Biscayne Blvd., 33131) This is the perfect sports bar (in Miami) for you, if don't give three shots of Hennessy that Rihanna might forget the words to your girlfriend's favorite song because all you want is to be surrounded by massive TV screens and tell everybody how much money you spent on your new Jalen Hurts jersey. 💰

Black Market Miami, a beefed up sports bar featuring an open bar overlooking the marina at Bayside Marketplace, also has the kind of menu that will have you doubling on your order of mango sliders and jello shots before you start texting your boss about taking Monday off. 😲

Sports Grill: (1559 Sunset Dr., 33143)

Still think the Dolphins are better than the Chiefs? You're probably all about Miami, so you will fit right in at this 305 institution, always featuring a family-friendly vibe as people of all ages enjoy some of the best wings in town, while creating 🏈 memories at their booths.

Sports Grill, a prime spot for locals ready to dissect your favorite team, whether you think Tua is still Super Bowl material or not, doubles as casual digs to watch the game - without all the noise. 📢 📢

Now open in Doral, Sports Grill, with multiple locations in the 305, is also known for offering dozens of items on their menu. So, no one will go home sick to their stomach or wishing for more field goals. Even if Chad Henne makes an appearance in Super Bowl LVII. 🐬

Pick 6 Super Bowl LVII Betting Preview Part 1: 5 Things For Bettors To Know +1 Thought On Chiefs vs. Eagles

Are you a sports bettor and super excited about all the betting action already being generated by the big game this Sunday ?

Whether you're a betting pro or a new sports bettor, your wait is almost over as the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will meet in Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium on Feb.12. Kickoff is set for approximately (6:30 p.m., EST. ).

With an estimated $16 billion projected
to be bet on Super Bowl LVII, most of which will be bet within 24-48 hours off kickoff, an all-time record for amount of money bet on a Super Bowl could very well be set by Chiefs vs. Eagles this year.

And sports bettors will help generate that money figure by betting on everything from the number of rushing attempts by Jalen Hurts to which color of Gatorade will be poured over the winning head coach's head at the end of the big game.

Here are 5 things you should know + 1 thought on Chiefs vs. Eagles, all from a betting perspective. (Check your favorite sports book's website for updated odds, spreads and lines on Super Bowl LVII):

1.) The Eagles are currently (-1.5 point spread favorites to win Super Bowl LVII: After opening at Pick'em nearly two weeks ago, before shifting as a result of bettors putting money on the Chiefs, the Eagles are consensus point spread favorites (at most sports books) to win Super Bowl LVII. What does it mean for bettors looking to make a point spread bet on Super Bowl LVII? A.) If you place a bet on the Eagles, Philadelphia would have to win the Super Bowl LVII by at least two points for you to win your bet. B.) If you place a bet on the underdog Chiefs to win Super Bowl LVII, Kansas City would have to win Super Bowl LVII, if not lose the game by exactly one point for you to cash your point spread bet.

2.) The Over/Under Point Total for Super Bowl LVII is currently (51): What do think the final score will be: 27-24? 38-31? 34-30? 35-31? 20-17? Oddsmakers (like they do for all NFL games) have set a Super Bowl LVII Over/Under Total, which is a number of the combined number of points they think the Eagles and Chiefs will score in the game. As of right now the Over/Under Total for Super Bowl LVII is 51 -- after almost an entire week of the Over/Under Total sitting at or around 49.5. Why the spike in the Over/Under Total for Super Bowl LVII? Here are a few possible factors:

A.) An increase in the overall money bet on the Over Total for Super Bowl LVII, with a majority of bettors, who have already made bets on the Over Total, believing Chiefs vs. Eagles will be a high-scoring game. B.) A popular notion that Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts, the two biggest stars of Super Bowl LVII, are going to put on a show, and add a bit of juice to a game lacking a super buildup. C.) It's the biggest American sports betting event on the annual calendar and a lot of people are going to be watching, if not making it a long weekend, so, naturally, a lot of points scored in the game will keep most viewers tuned in.

So, you have the option of betting the Over, meaning the total amount of points scored in Super Bowl LVII must reach at least (52) in order for you to win your bet. If you think Super Bowl LVII will be a low-scoring game dominated by both defensive units, you can bet the Under Total, meaning the total amount of points scored in Super Bowl LVII must not exceed (51) for you to win your bet.

3.) The Eagles are (-125) are moneyline win Super Bowl LVII: The Eagles are currently consensus moneyline favorites (at most sports books) of (-125) to win Super Bowl LVII. Are you a bettor looking to make a bet on the moneyline for Super Bowl LVII? In order to bet the Eagles at (-125), you would have risk, for example, $125 to win $100 for a total return of $225. If you back the underdog Chiefs, you would have to risk, for example, $100 to win $125 for a total return of $225. A $200 bet on the underdog Chiefs would return $450, for example. (Note: These are estimates. Check your favorite sports book's website for updated odds and lines.)

4.) Prop Bet Example: Jalen Hurts OVER 10.5 rush attempts: Are you a bettor, but don't have a strong betting opinion on what team is going to win Super Bowl LVII? No problem. Hundreds of prop bets available for Super Bowl LVII make it possible for you to narrow your bet down to a single player's performance, if not a non-game occurrence such as the length of the National Anthem or what color of Gatorade will be poured over the winning head coach's head at the end of the game. Do you think Jalen Hurts will run all over the Chiefs defense? You can bet Hurts will have at least 11 rush attempts in Super Bowl LVII. (Note: Please check out your favorite sports book for updated odds and more info. on all prop bets.)

Prop To Run Over: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is listed at 10.5 rush attempts in Super Bowl LVII. Think Hurts will have more or less than 10.5 rush attempts in Super Bowl LVII? It's one of hundreds of prop bets available for bettors to make in Super Bowl LVII. (Photo Courtesy Of: Philadelphia Eagles)

5.) Please Bet Responsibly: It's no secret: millions of bettors will help pour betting money all over Super Bowl LVII. However, whether you're a new sports bettor or longtime sports bettor, you should not bet out of reason on Super Bowl LVII. Come Monday morning the NFL season will be officially over and win or lose sports bettors should not risk more money than they can afford to lose. All told, please bet responsibly on Super Bowl LVII, and all other sporting events.

6.) Chiefs vs. Eagles: Did you know the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Kansas City Royals in the 1980 World Series? Just kidding 😂😂. Despite suffering key departures (Tyreek Hill), the Chiefs had the best offense in the league all season. Philadelphia, with Jalen Hurts leading the way, was pretty good on offense as well. Both defensive units are top-rate, but both the Eagles and Chiefs like to speed it up on offense. The Chiefs also do a superb job of pass blocking.

Perhaps, you might want to follow some of these storylines before making your bet for Super Bowl LVII. (Need a sports betting consultant/digital marketing copywriter? Let's connect. I would be happy to answer any questions.)

Betting On A Better Heart: 4 Ways To Improve Your Heart (For Any Kind Of Game)

With millions of people getting ready to watch the big game, if not prepping for a party lathered in pizza and chicken wings, your heart might be the last thing on your mind when Patrick Mahomes throws his next touchdown pass.

However, it's American Heart Month and
heart disease, one of the main causes of death worldwide, will definitely tackle you for a lose, if you don't protect your heart like most Americans protect their pro football.

Here are 4 ways to strengthen your heart and improve your lifestyle, while staying ahead of the rest of the playing field. (Note: You don't have to be a pro athlete to have a healthier heart.)

Move It

You may not have the speed or lung capacity of Jalen Hurts, yet, but face it: your heart is a muscle. And exercise is a super way to strengthen your heart. So, figure out what your heart rate is and  start moving with cardiovascular-improving exercises such as walking, running, swimming and cycling.

The impact of exercising (on a regular basis) will improve everything from your circulation to your blood pressure and heart rate levels -- in the long run.

Keep Moving: Running is just one form of exercise to keep a healthy heart.

Balance it out

You definitely don't need a nutritionist watching over you every second of the day, but keeping a balanced diet will likely have you feeling like you can tackle Travis Kelce, before you turn off the lights at night. Just adding a few more fruits (apples) and vegetables (carrots) to your daily eating routine, if not healthy proteins (salmon), will improve your heart in the long run. It will also make your digestive system and immune system feel like a brand new football.

Wing it like a pro, not a starved rookie

It's no 'Super' secret: NFL players and in some cases coaches, especially the meatier ones such as Jason Kelce and Andy Reid, love to eat. But even though eating a large amount of food at your next Super Bowl party will be hard to resist, eating a lot of food at once can (1) Cause blood shifting from the heart to the digestive system (2) Faster and irregular heart rhythms, which can lead to a heart attack or heart failure -- no matter what time of the year it is. So, control your urge to eat all the wings!

Don't stress it

Whether or not your favorite NFL team wins the big game on Sunday, your life will go on - no matter the result. Tip: Don't stress about any missed tackles or kicks during the big game. Or any other game for that matter. Stressing over another dropped pass, or anything, really, can lead to a rise in blood pressure and accelerate your heart rate - IE: a heart attack. Living with stress can also be stressful for your heart. So, just chill and make sure you live with a healthy heart.

NFL Betting 101: 3 Basic Types Of Bets Bettors Will Be Able To Make On Chiefs vs. Eagles (Super Bowl LVII)

Super Bowl LVII, like all Super Bowl games, will generate millions of dollars in betting action as bettors of all levels make bets, whether it's money bet on the Eagles, Chiefs and/or Super Bowl LVII 's Total Points (Over/Under).

Whether you're planning to be at a Super Bowl LVII party or a sports book in Las Vegas, millions of dollars will be bet on the big game. With that in mind, here are 3 basic types of bets you will be able to make on Super Bowl LVII. (Please bet responsibly.)

Super Bowl LVII Point Spread

As of right now, the Eagles, consensus point spread betting favorites in most sports books, are (-1.5) to defeat the Chiefs (+1.5) in Super Bowl LVII.

Think the Eagles, the NFC'S No. 1 seed, are just too good for the Chiefs? If you bet the favorite in this spot, the Eagles, 2-0 against the spread in the NFC Playoffs this season, would have to win Super Bowl LVII by at least two points for you to win your bet.

On the flip side, if you think the underdog Chiefs, hobbled and all, are going to beat the Eagles or cover the spread, Kansas City, the AFC's No. 1 seed, would have to win Super Bowl LVII straight up or lose by exactly one point for you to win your bet. The Chiefs went 1-1 ATS (against the spread) in the AFC Playoffs. Note: There is also a commission vig (juice) you will have to pay (Ex: Eagles -125, Chiefs -110) when making a point spread bet. (Please check with your favorite sports book for updated odds.)

Super Bowl LVII Total (Over/Under)

Don't have a strong enough opinion on Super Bowl LVII, to make a bet on the Eagles or Chiefs? The Over/Under, also known as the Total and set at 50 right now, is a number set by oddsmakers in accordance with the combined number of points they think will be scored in Super Bowl LVII.

So if you think the Total number of points will land at 49 points or less, you can bet the Under Total. If you think Super Bowl LVII will be a high scoring game, you can bet the Over Total will surpass 50 points. (Note: If the Total (Over/Under) lands on 50, you don't win or lose your bet if you bet the Total.)

Super Bowl LVII Moneyline

NFL moneyline bets are very popular with bettors, especially for the Super Bowl, when millions of casual bettors are enticed to bet on the game. With a moneyline bet, the team you bet on, in this spot the Eagles or Chiefs, would just need to win Super Bowl LVII.

Without a spread (to alter your money risk), there is a positive value (-110) or (-130) attached to the bet you make - in this case, Super Bowl LVII. For example: If you want to make a moneyline bet on the Eagles (-125) you have to bet $130 to win $100. (Note: If at -125). If you want to make a moneyline bet on the Chiefs (-110), you would have to bet $110 to win $100 (Note: If at -110). (Please check your favorite sports book for all updated spreads, moneyline odds and more.)
