TCU vs. Georgia: 3 Reasons Why The Horned Frogs Are The Right Side To Bet On

Coming off a 6-2 (ATS) record during the bowl games, including (3-0) in best bets to move to 27-17 overall for the college football season, I'm as motivated right now to give you my pick for TCU vs. Georgia as JJ McCarthy is when he opens his eyes each morning.

But before Katya changes her mind, let's take a look at 3 reasons why I think TCU (+12.5 at BetMGM) is a solid bet to score the upset vs. Georgia in the national championship game. And being we can all bet on a little extra motivation to start 2023, and I don't buy into trends too much, I'm going to use 3 words starting with the letter 'M' to make my case for the Horned Frogs. (Note: If you or someone you know has a betting problem and wants help, please call the National Council For Problem Gambling at 1-800-522-4700.)

1.) Motivation: This one is too easy. Georgia (14-0), the big moneyline favorite (-450 or so at your sportsbook of choice) with all the Sunday toys and chardonnay-zipping fan base, was pegged by most experts at the beginning of the season to be right where they are now.

So, this is nothing new for the 'Dawgs, playing for a second straight national championship.

Its TCU, the little school from Ft. Worth, Texas that was unranked to start the college football season, and still double-digit 'dogs in this spot, that has to be feeling a little extra juice come Monday night. If not, disrespected. Still.

2.) Momentum: For all of Georgia's success over the last two years, including running through the SEC, they're in this spot because (1) Ohio State failed at time management late in Saturday's semifinal game and (2) a field goal kicker missed a long attempt under extreme pressure.

The Horned Frogs, on the other hand, raced out to an 18-point lead against Michigan, before holding off a late rally by the Wolverines to secure their spot in the national championship game.

TCU, which hasn't played for a football national championship since 1938, is also the team with the unheralded coach (Sonny Dykes) in his first season in Ft. Worth and the starting QB (Max Duggan) who not too many schools wanted.

But all Duggan has done is overcome heart surgery on his way to becoming a Heisman Trophy runner-up this season. This after losing the starting QB role after his junior season.

Sounds like a Disney movie to me. Stetson Bennett IV? His story is old by now.

3.) Money: Despite their dominant ways for much of the season, the Bulldogs are just 7-7 against the spread heading into the matchup vs. TCU, including 5-5 in their last 10 against the spread.

Georgia failed to cover as significant favs against Missouri, Florida and Kentucky.

The Horned Frogs, meanwhile, were 10-3 overall against the spread and covered four times as favorites in their last 10 games.

So, be careful in putting too much stock in one team over the other .. before placing your bet. If you haven't already decided to bet on the Horned Frogs on Monday night!

Get Sharp: 3 Tips To Improve Your NFL and College Football Betting Skills (In Time For The National Championship Game and NFL Playoffs)

Whether you're a pro or college football bettor tracking line moves as easily as ESPN cams locate Katya Kuropas or just a beginner with eyes for the cash window, making money while betting on NFL and NCAAF games isn't easy.

Especially, if you're new to betting on football and/or want to become famous for all to see.

But with the National Championship Game and NFL Playoffs on the horizon, here are 3 tips on how to become a stronger football bettor. (Note: Please bet responsibly and within your limits.)

1.) Shop Around: Just like JJ McCarthy's girlfriend might not be for everybody, I really, really hope, you should go 'Line Shopping', if you're serious about making money on the National Championship Game and/or NFL Playoffs.

For Example: If you think TCU (+13.5) can beat or hang with Georgia in the National Championship Game,  I would suggest looking around for a 'book that might be offering the 'Frogs at (+14) or better...

Think about if JJ went shopping for a gift to give to Katya Kuropas, and smart, he probably wouldn't buy the first ring he saw. You probably wouldn't buy your new shirt at the first store you visited, either. Unless, the offer was too good to pass up. Same here! Also: If you haven't taken TCU at (+13.5) already, it might also be a good idea to sprinkle a little something on the moneyline, if you really think TCU can get by the 'Dawgs.

2.) Use Your Head, Not Your Favorite TCU T-shirt: Think about it: At some point Katya will have to make a decision on whether to go long - or not - with JJ! The same goes when you have to pick a team to bet on. You may love rooting for the Cowboys or think the Steelers will always be trash, but staying neutral and leaving emotions out of your betting game, will definitely be a big plus. For example: For as much as you may dig everything about the Cowboys, you have to take a step back if you're starting quarterback is Cooper Rush, and not Dak Prescott, in the NFC Championship Game vs. the 49ers, right? Well ... I really hope so!!

 3.) Go Beyond The Trends:

You might think JJ's dad is a real creeper after watching a few minutes of Michigan-TCU the other night .. but maybe the old man has eyes for some of the other finer things in life as well.

Same here! Don't get caught up in recent trends. Especially, during the postseason. So, just because the Bills have scored 30+ points in consecutive weeks doesn't mean their offense will go crazy against the Steelers in the Wild Card Round. Instead, check the injury reports and the weather conditions, among other things, as well!

Running Start To The New Year: 3 Steps To Become A Better Runner in 2023

Whether it's running your first race, running at a faster pace or simply running an extra mile, you can ring in 2023 by setting plenty of goals on how to become a better runner.

Here are (3) steps to help you become a better runner in 2023.

1.) Just run: Want to start the new year off and running? Take time out of your schedule to run (or walk) with enough consistency to build up a routine.

You might be surprised (or not) on how a 15-minute walk - to start with - can eventually lead to uninterrupted runs, if done as a regular routine. (Tip: Don't try to do too much from the start, especially if you're a beginner. However, log your progress and stick to a schedule. No excuses!!)

2.) Keep Running: Continue to run - no matter what! And set new running routine goals in 2023, in order to brush up on your (current) running weaknesses. Perhaps, you struggle running on windy days or avoid your running sneakers when it's a little chilly out .. Set a goal, like wanting to get new running sneakers, perhaps, and head out for your run.

3.) Sign Up (For A Run): Confident enough that you have completed a trail run? Now, sign up for an official run (race) that you think might be a lot of fun for you, if not play to your strengths as a runner. Whether you enjoy flat courses, cold weather runs or running over bridges, there's a finish line in sight for runners of all levels.

Stay hydrated, listen to your body and treat yourself!

Orange Crush: Pour into the South Florida economy, bet Clemson (-5.5) to beat Tennessee in the 'Orange Bowl'

A very hearty welcome to ththousands of Clemson and Tennessee fans currently pouring buckets of real ๐Ÿ’ฐ, not Sam's currency, into our economy, while in South Florida to attend the (2022) Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens ..

In Miami since Christmas Day I would assume, instead of having to withstand another miserable day in Knoxville, Tennessee this time of year, here's hoping you're on your fourth drink and overlooking the ocean from a 15th floor somewhere. I also hope you've already made New Year's Eve reservations on South Beach .. since there's no reason going back to Clemson, South Carolina, even if the Vols win the game, 35-3. Besides, you can't leave Miami without satisfying your urge of buying a condo in Sunny Isles Beach, having three Cuban sandwiches while standing underneath a window on Calle Ocho, and getting a private massage on Brickell Avenue.

So, yes, keep your favorite credit card handy at all times .. because you're definitely going to need it during your stay in South Florida.

It's not everywhere, you pay $6.75 for a cup of coffee - without a lid. ๐Ÿ˜‰.

But we're so grateful for your time and economy boost, I'm going to recommend you bet on Clemson (-5.5) and help you recoup the $11,359 you spent on your 5-day stay in the best city in the world.

A great return trip back home .. and Orange Bowl experience for all!

Last-minute stocking stuffer for NFL bettors: Steelers get nostalgic, cover vs. Raiders; Eagles-Cowboys play to the Under

There's no way around it -

If you're Cuban and from Miami,  eating lechรณn (roast pork), black beans over white rice, platanos maduros and yucca on Christmas Eve is as common as keeping your girlfriend away from your weird uncle.

But I'm super jolly and not freezing in Elizabeth, New Jersey right now, so here are some last-minute stocking stuffers (bets) for all NFL bettors! Note: We're coming off a 3-0 week and 24-12-1 on the season!

Cheers! And please bet responsibly.

Raiders @ Steelers (-2)

Saturday, 8:15 p.m. Acrisure Stadium, Pittsburgh

Are you really going to bet on a Raiders team (1) coming off a fluky win vs. the Patriots (2) a long ways from home a day before Christmas and (3) playing the geeked up Steelers, several days after losing a franchise icon (Franco Harris)?

I don't think so! I wouldn't trust this Las Vegas outfit at a brothel owned by my Cuban uncle. Seriously. All bets are off (I guess) in freezing temperatures, but I don't see the poorly-coached Raiders being able to weather the emotional storm they will face against the Steelers, not only playing better, but still breathing in the AFC postseason race. If that's not enough to bet the home fav Steelers, it's the 50th anniversary of 'The Immaculate Reception' and the game airs on The NFL Network. So, look for a juicy ending - a few minutes before it's officially Christmas - that The NFL Network can replay 3,458 times next week .... Let's bet the Steelers to cover (-2).

Eagles @ Cowboys (47)

Saturday, 4:25 p.m. AT&T Stadium, Dallas

Interesting dynamic in this spot, especially considering how the NFL betting market has been shaken this week thanks to cold weather and awful, but well-promoted backup QBs getting a chance to play important minutes.

Nothing against Gardner Minshew, but the facial hair wonderkid is just a novelty being played up in the sake of adversity. Also: The NFL has to sell you on watching Eagles-Cowboys, even if Jalen Hurts is on the shelf (for now). I'm also not sold, long-term, on the Cowboys, an uneven bunch I really don't trust.

So, we're going to bet the game goes Under the total of 47..

Have a healthy heart: 5 tips to reduce your sugar intake

Staying away from the cookies in the office or at the football watch party is never a sure bet for the faint of heart - especially this time of year. However, too much sugar intake can eventually cause severe heart-related issues.

But whether you're a serious player or novice around the bar during the holiday season, reckless sugar intake can lead to (1) weight gain, (2) increased blood glucose levels, (3) diabetes and (4) stroke symptoms/a heart attack.

Here are 5 tips to reduce your sugar intake, on the road to a healthier heart.

Let's face it ..

No matter what team your heart is rooting for, all the cookie trays you encounter this time of year can spike your sugar levels.

Another brownie here and shot of vodka there can add up with time, leading to  health issues such as (1) weight gain, (2) diabetes, and (3) increase in blood glucose levels.

All together, consuming too much sugar can eventually lead to stroke symptoms, if not a heart attack. So, watching your sugar intake is crucial to having a healthy heart - today and tomorrow.

Here are 5 tips on how to reduce your sugar intake:

1.) Reduce your portions:

Can't resist having more than one chocolate chip cookie after your significant other is done baking them? Make sure to avoid the kitchen at all cost, if not ask the baker to reduce the amount of sugar in the recipe.

Seriously.

2.) Get rid and/or reduce the sugar use:

Reduce the amount of sugar you add to such norms as coffee, cereal, waffles or tea.

Whether you use brown or white sugar, cutting back on all that sugar you add on food or drinks, will reduce the chances of long-term heart issues. There's also a better chance your blood glucose levels will not skyrocket into danger zone territory.

3.) Toss the soda: Say NO(!) to soda or sugary drinks - any time of the year. Again, it may be difficult to avoid them at all cost, especially at a holiday party, but water is always a better option than soda when trying to control your sugar intake. Can't break the habit right away? Go with a diet drink and work yourself up from there. If you're not drinking water, which should always be option No. 1!

4.) Stock up on fruit:  Are you prone to putting sugar on your cereal or oatmeal? Cut that out right now! Instead, try adding fresh fruits such as bananas, strawberries or berries. You can also opt for dried fruits (cranberries) as well.

5.) Say goodbye to the sugar: That's right! Get rid of all those sugar packets, if not sugar bags. Using extracts (vanilla) and/or spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) will likely take time to get used to in the morning, but your heart will definitely thank you later...

Brightline: 3 Things You Need To Know About The High-Speed Train

I recently took another ride on Brightline, the bullet train set to open Boca Raton and Aventura stations on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

Launched in July of 2018, Brightline, which currently links Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, features sleek lounges with tap beer and HD TV screens allowing you to settle back, in addition to onboard high-speed Wi-Fi - ideal for passengers looking to get some work done. Here are 3 more things you need to know before boarding Brightline.

Prime Service: Even before buying my round-trip (premium) ticket from Miami to West Palm Beach, the service offered by Brightline stood out to me. From the behind-the-counter Brightline attendant going out of her way to provide me with all pertinent information (train departures and arrivals, etc.) to the array of snacks (chips and cheese) and beverages (wine and beer) I was offered once onboard the high-speed train, it was smooth sailing during the 56-minute ride from Miami to West Palm Beach. (Note: The return trip from West Palm Beach to Miami took a few minutes more. That was it.)

Convenience+Comfort: Brightline definitely delivers on convenience and comfort. The 32-inch train cars provide plenty of room for all passengers, even for those in need of special access (strollers, wheelchairs). The large leather seats come with an in-seat recline that slides forward - which guarantees you won't be bothering the person behind you. Two USB ports and two outlets next to each seat also make it ideal for you to get work done on your laptop.

Brightline+ : Once I was in Miami, I was picked up in a yellow Brightline Tesla car that took me to my destination. (Brightline+ allows for travelers to book rides to and from a Brightline station at no extra cost, as long as the ride is five miles or less. (My ride fit the bill.) However, non-premium Brightline ticket holders can be picked up in vans and/or shuttles. Brightline has two tier pricing options: Smart and Premium. Ticket prices may differ depending on the time of day and length of your trip on Brightline. Please check the Brightline website for additional information.

Next stop: Brightline, which is opening up train stations in Boca Raton and Aventura this week, features sleek lounges and onboard Wi-Fi service.
